YOUNG PROFESSIONALS CONFERENCE: Opening of a call for papers
The water sector Young Professionals Association of the East African zone is launching a call for papers in the framework of the holding of a conference devoted to the general theme: “Water for tomorrow: a collective responsibility”.

Five sub-themes were identified on the basis of which interested candidates may submit papers. They are: Climate change, integrated management of water resources, governance, finance and management, sustainable water systems and knowledge and capacity building.

The deadline for submitting papers is 31 August.

CAPACITY BUILDING : A seminar on optimization of energy held inTanzania
The African Water Association is organizing from 25 to 26 August in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania, a training seminar on optimization of energy.

The seminar is aimed at assisting officials of water utilities to meet the energy challenges confronting them. It is intended to familiarize them with the appropriate technological solutions for better optimizing energy in their main mission of supplying water to the populations.

The seminar is being organized in collaboration with DAWASCO.
PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT : AfWA and AFRE finalize the draft partnership agreement
The African Water Association (AfWA) and the Asociacion de Fabricantes de Agua y Riego de España (AFRE) held discussions on 20 July in Kigali on the last version of their partnership agreement.

During the discussions, the president of AfWA, Mamadou Dia, expressed his vision of a win-win partnership that provides know-how.

The General Manager of AFRE, Miguel Lopez, was in favour of a long-term collaboration through the AfricaSpainforwater Initiative.

Pending the official signing of the partnership agreement scheduled for August ending, the two parties designated their members who should sit on the Technical and Financial Committee in charge of advising and directing the implementation of projects.
DISTINCTION : The Secretary General of AfWA receives a distinction from AFRE

The Secretary General of the African Water Association (AfWA), Sylvain Usher received on 20 July in Kigali, a distinction from the Asociacion de Fabricantes de Agua y Riego de España (AFRE) in recognition of services rendered in the water sector worldwide.

The distinction plaque was presented by the General Manager of AFRE, Miguel Lopez, in the presence of President Mamadou Dia, the Vice-President, William Muhairwe, the Chairman of the STC, Silver Mugisha, and Hama Amadou Maïga, member of the Executive Board.
