Dr. Rose Kaggwa outstanding Woman of the Year: Power/Water 2017

“A woman is the greatest mutli-tasker,” said Dr. Rose Kaggwa, the winner of the Outstanding Woman of the Year: Power/Water 2017. She believes that a woman can shine given any opportunity.

Dr. Kaggwa received the award at the fourth African Utility Week Power Industry Awards on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 during the 17th annual African Utility Week in Cape Town, South Africa. These awards brought together 800 of Africa’s most renowned power and water industry professionals. She has worked in various management levels within the National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Uganda, and is currently the Director for Business and Scientific Services. She is responsible for Capacity Development and Training, Research and Development, and External Services, the NWSC Consultancy arm. She has led the Consultancy unit for the past 10 years. Dr. Kaggwa has also been essential to many performance improvement approaches applied in NWSC at both the managerial and supervisory level.

Dr. Kaggwa has 24 years of experience in the water sector and has interfaced with various players in the sector. She has spearheaded partnerships in several countries, including Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Trinidad and Tobago, India, and Zambia. She is also the current Second President of the African Water Association Scientific and Technical Committee and the Vice President of the UNESCO-IHP Advisory Committee for Human Settlement, Water and Sanitation. Her passion is capacity development and raising the profile of women in the water and sanitation sector.
This is the second award that Dr. Kaggwa received in the span of one year. The first being the 2016 IWA Women in Water Award during the International Water Association Congress in Brisbane, Australia.

The Outstanding Woman of Year award celebrates a woman in the power or water industries for their outstanding achievements, contribution or impact on the sector whether from utility, public or private company.
