The water quality program aims to guarantee good water quality to consumers in accordance with current international standards as prescribed by the World Health Organisation. It is managed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), an international American organisation, in collaboration with the decision-makers and main actors of the Ghanaian Water, Hygiene and Sanitation sector.

The Accra meeting for the benefit of several professionals of the WASH sector had several objectives; namely validate this programme on water quality, and involve these stakeholders, in order to ensure the dissemination, exploitation and effective implementation of the policies and recommendations contained in the programme. Participants at this workshop, drawn from professional organisations, international institutions and academics came from countries in the sub-region.

These reforms for water quality will bring about a significant improvement in the water production mechanisms, along with high-performing equipment, monitoring tools with the latest technological innovations and highly qualified human resources. The establishment of a “Surveillance and Water quality’’ plan within the decision-making bodies of the utilities and the involvement of academics in this issue are some of the recommendations of this workshop, which took place from 3 to 4 October in in Accra, Ghana.
