Five African utilities were on display at the World Water Congress and Exhibition held in Brisbane, Australia, from 9 to 14 October 2016. The congress is organised every two years by the International Water Association (IWA), which brings together some 5,500 participants.

The delegation of African utilities, namely SODECI (COTE D’IVOIRE), NCWSC (KENYA), EPAL (ANGOLA), SDE (SENEGAL) and SOMAGEP (MALI) were led by the African Water Association (AfWA), the leading organisation in the coordination and adoption of water, sanitation and hygiene policies on the continent and a member of IWA.

The African pavilion covering an area of 121m2 recorded a significant rate of attendance estimated at 100 visitors per day. The World Water Congress and Exhibition was marked by several technical sessions which allowed the participants who came from all over the world to discuss and share their experiences, in order to come up with concrete actions to accelerate progress towards greater accountability in the management of the water resources of the planet.
